Hobson Bay Sewer Seismic Risk Assessment, Auckland, NZ

The Hobson Bay Sewer is an elevated pipeline crossing a tidal bay. The structure was built in 1905.

Compusoft Engineering Ltd. (CEL) was engaged to determine the level of earthquake at which the sewer structure would be expected to fail and calculate the resulting risk of failure before alternative sewer lines have been developed.

Work included the implementation of seismic risk methodology, confirmation of suitable hazard spectra for the different estuarine deposits, determination of stiffness and strength properties of the concrete, and dynamic analysis using non-linear soil models.
